Most people aren’t aware of it, but the position you sleep in can have a positive or negative impact on your sinusitis, back, neck and shoulder pain and blood pressure. During sleep, the body renews cell and recovers itself as a whole from the usual wear and tear. Doctors recommend 7-9 hours of sleep depending on the age – the duration is important, but so is the sleeping position.

Low back pain
If you’re suffering from low back pain, sleep on your back with a pillow under your knees. A folded towel under the base of your spine can help as well. This will give the lower back the necessary support and soothe the pain.

Sleeping on the stomach
Sleeping on the stomach can cause back pain, so if this is your favorite sleeping position, put a pillow under the belly and pelvic area to align the spinal column.

Sleeping on the side
If you’re sleeping on the side to avoid back pain, put a pillow between your knees for optimal comfort. Your hips should be aligned to the lower back, and the head must be in a straight line with the spine.

Pain in the shoulders
If you’re suffering from pain in the shoulders, try to sleep on the healthy side. Put a pillow between your knees and another clutched to the chest for more comfort.

Sinus problems
If you’re suffering from a sinus infection or runny nose, the problem can become worse or better depending on your sleeping position. In this case, sleep on the back and keep your head elevated with a pillow under your neck in order to allow the mucus to pass easily to the back of the throat.

Some experts think that headaches occur as a result of twisted neck during sleeping – if this is the case, surround your head with pillows while sleeping on the back to prevent headaches.

Menstrual cramps
To ease menstrual cramps, sleep on your back with a pillow under the knees to take the pressure off the abdomen and spine. For even better results, put a hot towel on your stomach.

High blood pressure
If you have blood pressure, sleep on your stomach with the face down. According to one Japanese study, sleeping on your stomach can significantly reduce your blood pressure. However, this may also result in neck and back pain, which is why we suggest sleeping on the right side if you’re dealing with high blood pressure.

Stomach acid
If you’re suffering from excess stomach acids or gastroesophageal reflux, indigestion and heartburn, sleep on the left side.

Digestive problems
To relieve any kind of digestive problems, the key is to sleep on your left side. This will reduce the pressure on the digestive system and improve your digestion, effectively relieving the problems. We also suggest waiting for at least 2 hours before sleeping after a big meal in order to prevent indigestion.

Neck pain
To relieve neck pain, put a folded towel under the curve of your neck.

As you can see, you can relieve numerous pains and health problems by sleeping in the correct position. Follow the guide if you’re suffering from any of them and you will be able to soothe the pain quickly.
